In ongoing discussions surrounding the transfer market, Manchester United finds itself in dialogue concerning the talented River Plate prodigy, Claudio Echeverri.

The interest in the 17-year-old Argentine has also been publicly acknowledged by Barcelona, who have previously secured the services of Brazilian striker Vitor Roque from Palmeiras.

Reports indicate that Manchester United, along with several English clubs, has been engaged in talks with River Plate about Echeverri.

However, Barcelona’s manager, Xavi Hernandez, has been the first to openly express admiration for the young talent, drawing parallels with the legendary Lionel Messi.

“Echeverri is a talent,” Xavi stated, emphasizing the player’s distinct qualities beyond his remarkable hat-trick against Brazil in the Under 17 World Cup.

Barcelona’s interest is rooted in their scouting department, which recognizes Echeverri’s potential to become a game-changing footballer.

The 17-year-old’s standout performance in the quarter-finals against Brazil, where he scored three goals, has fueled comparisons with Messi.

Echeverri concluded the tournament as the Golden Boot winner, showcasing exceptional close control, dribbling skills, and a goal-scoring ability that aligns with the attributes of classic ‘number tens’ like Ariel Ortega, Marcelo Gallardo, and Pablo Aimar, all River Plate graduates.

Radio la Red in Argentina suggests that Barcelona is prepared to surpass Echeverri’s £23 million release clause, offering around £26 million to secure his signature and outpace competing interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, and others.

The move, undoubtedly endorsed by Messi, reflects Barcelona’s commitment to acquiring Argentina’s next football sensation.

As the transfer discussions unfold, it’s noteworthy that Manchester United is also keeping a close eye on Echeverri’s River Plate teammates, Ian Subiabre and Augustin Ruberto.
