Exciting young talent Kobbie Mainoo is on the verge of making his first appearance of the season for Manchester United, thanks to his impressive performances for England’s Under-19s this week.
The midfielder, who made his senior debut for United in January during the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Charlton Athletic, showcased his skills in two outings for the Three Lions youngsters in Marbella, Spain.
After contributing as a substitute in a 6-0 victory over Romania on Wednesday, Mainoo started in the midfield during Saturday’s win against Japan, wearing the No.10 shirt.
He played for 76 minutes before being substituted for Tottenham Hotspur’s Jamie Donley, who secured a 3-2 victory with a late goal.
Mainoo, recovering from an ankle injury suffered in July, has accumulated more than 90 minutes of playing time during this international break.
England’s Under-19s will wrap up their Marbella trip with a match against Mexico on Tuesday.
Despite being on the bench for United’s last three Premier League matches, Mainoo hasn’t seen action.
However, his recent performances at the youth level and now with England’s Under-19s make a strong case for his inclusion in Erik ten Hag’s plans.
With Christian Eriksen and Casemiro sidelined due to injury, Mainoo’s increased match fitness could be crucial for United’s midfield depth.
Widely recognized as one of the most promising talents at United, Mainoo’s upcoming appearance against Mexico could further bolster his chances of featuring when United faces Everton next Sunday.
His return to Carrington after the international break is eagerly awaited, and fans hope to see more of his talent on display in the Premier League.
