There are growing concerns over the relationship between Raphael Varane and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, with reports indicating that it has ‘practically broken down.’

Varane, the 30-year-old defender who joined from Real Madrid in August 2021, played a significant role in Ten Hag’s debut season.

However, after missing the start of this season due to injury, Varane has struggled to regain his place in the starting lineup.

Ten Hag recently discussed the defensive pecking order at United, noting Harry Maguire’s resurgence and suggesting that Varane must now fight for his place.

A new report from the Daily Mail reveals a ‘frank exchange of views’ between Varane and Ten Hag after the defender was dropped for the match against Manchester City on October 29.

Since then, Varane has expressed his discontent with being overlooked in favor of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof.

Lindelof partnered with Maguire in the recent win over Luton, scoring the decisive goal. Varane, having made only three substitute appearances since, is reportedly unhappy with his current situation.

There are strong links suggesting Bayern Munich’s interest in Varane, but his substantial weekly wages of £340,000 could be a hurdle for the Bundesliga club.

As Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to take over 25% of the club from the Glazer family for £1.3 billion, there are looming uncertainties about the future of players like Varane and his former Real Madrid teammate Casemiro.

Both players arrived at Old Trafford with hefty contracts, and Ratcliffe is expected to make significant decisions in the coming months.
