Manchester United supporters voiced their concerns loud and clear following Lisandro Martinez’s early exit in the 3-0 triumph over West Ham on Sunday.

Martinez’s premature substitution in the thrilling 4-3 victory against Wolves on Thursday had already sparked worry among fans, particularly after he was seen receiving treatment with an ice pack on his leg. Manager Erik ten Hag sought to allay fears, attributing the decision to tactical considerations rather than injury concerns.

In a post-match press conference on Friday, Ten Hag clarified, stating, “I had to sub Rasmus Hojlund, he was exhausted from all the running. Then we needed an extra header, so I brought on Harry Maguire for Licha and Omari Forson for Rasmus Hojlund.”

However, Martinez’s setback at Old Trafford during the clash with West Ham added another layer of concern.

The Argentine center-back, who had only recently returned from a spell on the sidelines due to injury, was forced off in the 71st minute, replaced by Raphael Varane.

While Martinez managed to leave the field under his own power, accompanied by a member of the United staff, the severity of his injury remains uncertain.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, expressed frustration at the decision not to substitute Martinez immediately after his initial injury against West Ham.

Many believed it was a risk that backfired, with some questioning the manager’s judgment and urging caution given Martinez’s recent return from injury.

“FFS, can’t catch a break with injuries. Martinez should’ve been taken off as soon as he held his knee,” one fan lamented.

Another chimed in, “Should have taken off Martinez when the injury first happened, not let him stay on for a few more minutes.”

The sentiments were echoed by others, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing player welfare and minimizing unnecessary risks, especially considering Martinez’s recent injury history.

With Martinez’s condition uncertain, United supporters are left hoping for a swift recovery for their influential defender as they navigate the challenges of the season.
