Pogba Determined to Prove Manchester United Wrong in Contract Saga
Paul Pogba, the World Cup-winning midfielder, is set to depart Old Trafford as a free agent this summer, marking the end of six challenging years with Manchester United.
The 29-year-old expressed his determination to showcase that the club erred in allowing him to reach free agency, questioning the delay in offering him a new contract.
Despite a record-breaking £89 million ($108m) transfer to Manchester United and an impressive debut season under Jose Mourinho, Pogba faced ongoing scrutiny and struggled to consistently exhibit his best form during his tenure in England.
Now, with his contract running down, Pogba is poised for a return to Serie A with Juventus.
In his new Amazon Prime documentary, Pogba shared his perspective: “My thought process is to show Manchester (United) that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract.
And to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract.”
While Manchester United made efforts to secure Pogba’s commitment with improved terms during the summer of 2021, the midfielder remains critical of the timing, questioning the logic of waiting until just 12 months before his contract expiry to initiate talks.
Pogba, reflecting on the situation, remarked, “How can you tell a player you absolutely want him and offer him nothing? Never seen that.”
As Pogba looks ahead to a new chapter, he is motivated to silence doubters and make a compelling statement about his abilities, emphasizing the perceived shortcomings in Manchester United’s handling of his contract situation.
